A heartwarming scene unfolded at Thailand’s Elephant Nature Park when a ‘nanny’ elephant showed a hesitant baby how to enjoy rolling in the mud.
Captured on camera by Steph Snowdon, a volunteer with Save the Asian Elephants (STAE), the video highlights the baby elephant cautiously approaching the muddy patch after the elder had moved on.
Trying to mimic the nanny’s playful actions, the baby eagerly tumbled onto the soft ground. However, it didn’t seem to enjoy the experience as much and quickly stopped rolling around.
Duncan McNair, CEO of Save the Asian Elephants, shared the charming video on Facebook, writing: “Watch this adorable video of a Nanny elephant showing a baby elephant how to roll in the mud. Thanks to STAE volunteer Steph Snowdon for sending in her phone footage from her time at The Elephant Nature Park in Thailand.”
In elephant herds, ‘nanny’ elephants are not always biologically related to the calves but often care for and guide the young.
Save the Asian Elephants, a non-profit organization, is dedicated to ending these majestic creatures’ cruelty and harsh treatment.
Among the group’s supporters is author and former “I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here” star Stanley Johnson, who reportedly serves on the organization’s Executive Board.
