During a recent visit to Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand, India, photographer Jagdeep Rajput captured an unusual and striking image of an Asian elephant with red ears.
This rare pigmentation caught the attention of many park visitors, eager to witness the extraordinary sight.
Jagdeep, a 56-year-old bank worker from New Delhi, explained that the red coloration in the elephant’s ears is due to natural pigmentation, a phenomenon occasionally seen in some elephants.
He shared his excitement about the experience, saying, “It was a massive elephant, but its demeanor was calm and gentle.”
Male elephants are often solitary, wandering alone for much of their lives. They only occasionally rejoin herds for mating or to establish dominance.
The elephant in question, believed to be over 25 years old, created quite a buzz in the park. Many visitors, including Jagdeep, were eager to capture the moment.
As a seasoned wildlife photographer with over 27 years of experience, Jagdeep has photographed numerous elephants.
Yet, this encounter with the red-eared elephant was a unique highlight. “It’s not common to see elephants with red ears, which made the experience even more special,” he said.
The red-eared elephant continues to captivate onlookers, adding to the allure of Corbett National Park’s wildlife.
