A young bull elephant trapped in a water hole at Tarangire National Park in Tanzania was successfully rescued, thanks to the efforts of a dedicated team of wildlife rangers.
The elephant found himself stuck in the well, struggling to get out while waving his trunk and desperately trying to find a way back to dry land. Standing on his hind legs, he gazed over the well’s edge, unable to climb alone.
Fortunately, the African People and Wildlife team scouts arrived to help. They began by feeding him branches to calm him down while figuring out how to free him.
Their initial strategy involved digging a pathway for the elephant to use, but despite his attempts, he couldn’t climb the steep incline.
The team placed large rocks on the path in their next attempt, hoping the elephant could use them as firm stepping points.
However, after several tries, the exhausted elephant collapsed back into the water, too worn out to continue.
Determined not to give up, the team made a final attempt. They used a strong rope as support, creating a barrier behind him in a tug-of-war style to keep him from slipping back. With one last push, the elephant managed to pull himself up and out of the water hole.
Although visibly tired, the elephant quickly headed off to rejoin his herd, and the rangers scattered to give him space as he returned to safety.
